Dreaming of Reality: Sleeping, Dreaming & Dying in Tibetan Buddhism

D3S2 - Generic Ideas and the Second Instant

Lama Alan · 42 minutes · recorded January 1, 2019

In the guided practice we take one domain at a time, the visual field, then sound, then the tactile, then the mind, each nakedly, asking whether any of it is owned. Lama Alan Wallace names three ways of not knowing something: not paying attention, projecting what is not there, as racism does, and a blockage that hides what is in plain sight. He then gives the old two-instant account: the first gets what reality is dishing up, the second superimposes a generic idea, static where reality is in constant flux, and fusing the two is delusion.
