Joyful Heart: Exploring the Four Immeasurables

Session 1 - Loving-Kindness

David Oromith · 84 minutes · recorded June 9, 2024

Two guided loving kindness practices: a short reflection on our own good qualities, then the full meditation, in which we extend well wishes from ourselves through a loved one, a stranger and someone difficult. David explains loving kindness as a wish rather than a feeling, distinguishes it from attachment dressed as love and from malice, and tells the story of the Dalai Lama's puzzlement at Western self-contempt.
