Lama Alan tells of the Buddha's earlier life as a beast of burden, whose compassion for a fellow ox ended his own hell realm, and turns to how reifying self and other as separate undermines empathy and invites manipulation. The session closes with a short guided practice in which we invert awareness onto the sense of being an agent.
