Robina Courtin
Tibetan Buddhist Nun and Teacher
Venerable Robina Courtin is an Australian nun in the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, in the lineage of Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Born in Melbourne in 1944, she trained as a classical singer in London and was active in feminist and prisoners rights work before meeting the Dharma, ordaining in Dharamsala in 1978. She served as editorial director of Wisdom Publications and as editor of Mandala magazine, and in 1996 founded the Liberation Prison Project, which she directed until 2009 and which supported people in prison in their Buddhist study and practice. She teaches for the FPMT internationally, and is known for a direct, forthright style.
