Module 8: The Bodhisattva Path II: Emptiness and The Two Truths · The Buddha’s Path

A module of The Buddha's Path study programme with David Oromith on emptiness and the two truths, and the reasonings that lead to realising them.

This Module is part of The Buddha's Path (our foundational study programme) and continues our exploration of the Mahayana bodhisattva path. Realising emptiness, or grasping the true nature of reality, lies at the heart of the Buddhist path. This is the teaching of the two truths: conventional truth and ultimate truth. While conventional truth refers to the way things appear in our everyday experience, ultimate truth points to their deeper nature, which is śūnyatā, emptiness: free from inherent existence. This profound insight dismantles our habitual grasping and misconceptions. It is this insight that liberates us, by uprooting ignorance and therefore attachment and aversion, the roots of our suffering. During this module, David will introduce the Madhyamaka view of emptiness, and offer practical explanations and instructions on the reasonings and practices aimed at realising emptiness.
