Module 8: The Bodhisattva Path II: Emptiness and The Two Truths · The Buddha’s Path

Session One - Looking for the Chairness

David Oromith · 83 minutes · recorded March 19, 2025

The session opens with a settling meditation on the breath, with refuge and bodhichitta for those who want them. David introduces emptiness as the absence of a findable, independent essence, taking a wooden chair apart to ask where the chairness is. A guided analysis then searches body and mind for the 'I' that gets embarrassed or offended. Questions cover non-duality and the worry that emptiness is nihilism.

For a deeper view of emptiness and where it meets science, look for Lama Alan Wallace's lecture "Mind, Emptiness & Quantum Physics".
